Block exemption

A rule that clears a whole type of agreement under competition law at once, if the agreement meets its conditions. The Agreement must pass two, the UK’s and the EU’s, because it touches both markets. Chapter 3 · see Hardcore restriction, Market share threshold

Explained in Chapter 3, Competition Law in Distribution: Active and Passive Sales, of Distribution Agreements.

How it comes up, in Chapter 3
A deal between a maker and a firm that resells its goods is a vertical agreement. The two sit at different steps between factory and customer. The UK and the EU each give such deals a block exemption. That is a rule that clears a whole type of agreement at once, if the deal meets its conditions.
