Regulation & Compliance

The rules a business must follow while it trades, who checks that it does, and what its lawyers do when something looks wrong.

Compliance work is a common first seat in-house and in regulatory teams. The work is applying rules to facts: who is this client, where did the money come from, who decides about this data, what must customers be told, what must be reported and by when. Each task makes sense only once you have seen one file run from the first question to the regulator's reply.

The editions here each follow one fictional client. A law firm checks a new client and its money. A software supplier signs a data processing agreement, passes on a request, reports a breach and answers the ICO. A gardening app writes the terms, privacy notice and cookie banner its customers see. Each attaches the client's own documents in full, with a short test after each chapter.
