Buying land and the buildings on it, investigating the title first, and seeing the buyer's name onto the register; then letting part of the building on a new lease.
Real estate is a common first seat for trainees, and the work is paper from the first day: official copies to read, searches to order and chase, replies to enquiries to check against a survey, a completion statement to reconcile. Each task makes sense only as a step on the road from an accepted offer to a new register of title.
The first two editions here follow one fictional building in Leeds. The first is its purchase: a freehold bought from the accepted offer to the register, with the full sale contract attached. The second is its letting: a new lease of part of the same building, negotiated with a tenant clause by clause, with the full lease attached. In both you read each clause when the deal needs it, with a short test after each chapter.
