Acknowledgment of service

A short form telling the court that the defendant has received the claim and whether it will defend it. Corledge had 14 days from deemed service to file it. Without it, Ravensett could have asked for default judgment. Chapter 3 · see Deemed service, Default judgment

Explained in Chapter 3, Issuing and Serving the Claim Form, of Civil Litigation.

How it comes up, in Chapter 3
The claim form also goes out with a response pack: the forms Corledge may use to answer. One is the acknowledgment of service, a short form that tells the court Corledge has received the claim and whether it will defend it. The others let Corledge admit the claim or defend it. With the pack in hand, Corledge cannot say it did not know what to do.
