Syndicated loan

A loan in which several banks each lend a share under one agreement. An arranger gathers the lenders and an agent runs the loan, so the borrower deals with one bank. Each bank promises only its own share. Chapter 1 · Chapter 2

Explained in Chapter 1, What Debt Finance Is, of Finance Deals & Syndicated Lending.

How it comes up, in Chapter 1
A loan from one bank is a bilateral loan. When a sum is too large or too risky for one bank, several banks share it. In a syndicated loan, each bank takes a slice of the same facility, and all of them sign one agreement. A small group of banks, like the three on Sunrise, is often called a club deal, and it works in the same way.
