Non-compete

A restriction that stops a former employee working for a rival at all for a time. Clause 23.1 bars Esme for 6 months from a sales or similar role with a Restricted Business in the UK. It is the hardest restriction to defend, so it is drafted narrowly. Contract 23.1 · Chapter 8 · see Restricted Business

Explained in Chapter 8, Restrictive Covenants: Non-Compete, Non-Solicitation and Non-Dealing, of Employment Contracts.

How it comes up, in Chapter 8
A non-compete stops a former employee working for a rival at all for a time. It is the hardest restriction to defend, because it keeps her out of work in her own field. Cressby still needs one, because its Head of Sales will know its prices, its products and its plans for hotel chains. At a rival she could use that knowledge without ever naming a customer.
