Legal Due Diligence · glossary

Executive summary

The first section of a diligence report, and the one most readers read closely. It gives an overall view, ranks the findings with their ratings and responses, and says what the team did not find. Write it last. Report §1 · Chapter 12

Explained in Chapter 12, Findings, Reports and the Deal, of Legal Due Diligence.

How it comes up, in Chapter 12
Most readers of a report read one section carefully: the first. They include the client's board, the deal leaders and the lenders' credit committee. So the executive summary is the product, not a preface. Write it last, and write it best.
