Module 2 · Chapter 5
Holiday, Sick Pay and Time Off
A senior hire expects paid holiday, and pay while she is ill. The contract sets how much. The law sets a floor beneath it, and that floor has just risen.
In this chapter
- How much paid holiday the Contract gives, and what happens to unused days
- How company sick pay and statutory sick pay fit together
- What family and bereavement leave the law adds, and how the Contract keeps up
5.1Time off in one paragraph
Time off has two layers. The law sets a minimum of paid holiday, sick pay and family leave. A contract may give more than that minimum, but not less. Esme’s Contract gives more holiday and more sick pay than the law requires, and simply follows the law on family and bereavement leave.
Key point
The law is the floor. The Contract builds on it, and moves with it when the law changes.
Also in this chapter
- How much paid holiday Esme gets
- Unused holiday: carry-over and leaving
- Sick pay: full salary first, then statutory sick pay
- Family and bereavement leave
- Your job
