Module 3 · Chapter 5
DMCC Act Subscriptions: Trials, Reminders and Exit
A free trial that turns into payment is where customers can feel trapped. This chapter shows how reminders, an easy way out and the cooling-off periods keep a subscription fair.
In this chapter
- Why a free trial already counts as a subscription
- What the reminders say, and when Seedlark sends them
- How a customer leaves, and what money comes back
5.1Subscriptions in one paragraph
A subscription takes money every month until the customer stops it. That suits the business, but the customer may forget it is running.
So the law asks three things of a subscription. The customer is reminded before paying, can leave easily, and has time to change their mind. A free trial carries the most risk, because the first payment comes after days of paying nothing.
Key point
Customers must see each payment coming, and leave as easily as they joined.
Also in this chapter
- When the subscription rules apply
- Reminders before the customer pays
- Ending the subscription in two taps
- Two cooling-off periods, and what comes back
- Your job
