Module 1 · Chapter 2
Your Page Is Your Front Door
Your LinkedIn page is read by people who never tell you they read it. This chapter takes it part by part: the headline, the About, the photo, the experience lines and the posts.
In this chapter
- What the headline, the About and the photo must tell a stranger
- How to make each experience line count what you did
- What to post, how often, and what never to post
2.1Who reads your page
Your LinkedIn page is the one document about you that a stranger can read without asking. A recruiter reads it before a call, and a client's finance director reads it before a meeting. The people you trained with read it late at night. None of them will tell you they looked, and most of them will act on what they saw.
A week after she qualified, Tess Okonjo's page still said “Trainee Solicitor at Fenwick Rowe LLP”. It had no photo and no About. So one evening, at her kitchen table, she rewrote it part by part.
Key point
Write every part of the page for a stranger who cannot ask you anything. If the page says the old job, the stranger believes the old job.
Also in this chapter
- A headline answers a question
- An About in 120 words
- A photo that looks like you this year
- Experience lines that count what you did
- What to post, and what never to post
- Your job
